In 1958 oil geologist Paul Walton and his wife Betty started piecing the ranch together with the proceeds from Paul’s legendary oil discoveries in the Middle East and Western U.S. for Standard Oil and J. Paul Getty.

Set along 3 miles of the legendary Snake River, with the majestic, snow-capped Grand Tetons as a backdrop, this 1,848-acre working cattle ranch has expansive woodland and meadows as well as unsurpassed views over the entire valley. Improvements include a two-story main house and a manager’s complex of two homes, bunkhouse, corrals, stables, barns and outbuildings.

To preserve the ranch’s pristine beauty and protect its abundant wildlife, which includes eagles, deer, bear and its own resident elk herd, the Waltons donated a conservation easement to the Jackson Hole Land Trust in 1983. This remains the largest easement in the Trust’s history and the second largest in Teton County, second only to the Rockefeller family’s gift of Grand Teton National Park.
